I am a self-taught pet and wildlife artist living in the beautiful North Norfolk countryside totally surrounded by the wildlife that I adore. I've always been dotty about animals and, over the years, have been owned by lots of pets: dogs, cats, budgies, rabbits, mice, chickens, horses and even the odd frog or two!!
When I work I pay a lot of attention to fine detail which gives a natural and lifelike appearance to my portraits. The greatest compliment that I can receive about my art is if someone says that they can almost hear the animal breathing or that the fur looks so real that they want to run their fingers through it. I don't just want to paint a beautiful animal, I also want to capture its personality too.
Each portrait takes many hours of work and I use the highest quality pastel pencils, soft pastel sticks, pan pastels and paper to achieve the best results.

I began Oriental brush painting almost two decades ago under the guidance of the late Kit Nicol who began to teach the art at Blakeney. From then on I continued, and indeed continue, to learn, developing my own style over the years. Inspired by the natural world I enjoy painting a range of subjects using the traditional materials of Chinese/Japanese brush painting. A very absorbing hobby!

I am based in Norfolk, surrounded by marshes and a river running by in the distance. Very lucky indeed. It would be difficult not to be involved with the wild world in such a place, so that's what I seem to be working on. The starting place is wildness and a need to express our connection with it, as well as to celebrate the beauty of what is here and thriving, an essential survival tool for us all in these alarming times.

I originate from South Yorkshire, an area steeped in the pottery industry in the 1800s and early 1900s, whether my ancestors were part of this I don’t know, but I do feel more at home with clay than almost anything else! So it was the obvious thing to do after a 30 year stint with the NHS. I love throwing and sculpting and always have a theme connecting with my other passion, animals and the natural world. I’m based in Overstrand and have a workshop and small gallery at home.

Dianne Lindsay
Dianne Lindsay has an essentially realistic response to the rural and marine environment of Norfolk and Suffolk. Exhibiting for the last 10 years between Cromer and Southwold. The colour: lights, sights, and sounds of local views have always inspired her. With a strong interest in communicating, and the need to share the joy of painting with others. Aiming to do this with a fresh, spontaneous, vibrancy with a fullness from a colourful life and a need to capture the mood and moment in each piece. Her work features trees, gardens and local heritage sites including doorways, harbours, and pier views. Dianne enjoys working plein air as the light and skies in Norfolk are incredible. She can be found completing commissions at home nestled along the coast, and in her spare time will be found in her second love, her garden.

In the early 1980's I saw a wonderful exhibition of the Embroiderers' Guild work in Norwich. I joined the Guild and studied a 4-year City and Guilds Course in Embroidery and Textiles, followed by a Diploma in Adult Education. Since then I have been teaching embroidery, running a small group in North Norfolk and exhibiting with TOPstitch. I have also been an active member, over many years, of the Embroiderers' Guild. I particularly like traditional hand embroidery techniques with a contemporary look, creating three-dimensional items and exploring all the exciting new materials and mediums available today.

I have been making mosaics since 1996 and have developed my own style by experimenting with different techniques and materials. I like making mosaics in relief rather than flat, and the grout is an integral part of each piece; not just to fill in the gaps. I like combining a variety of mosaic materials and less traditional ones such as wood. I had a shop in Hastings for 5 years, which was also my studio. Talking with people who were enthusiastic about my work was rewarding, and getting commissions, which I have had from all over the world, is proof of their enthusiasm. I moved to Norfolk in 2004 and now I work from home on commissions whilst continuing to explore the possibilities of new techniques through my own work.

Guy Allen
Guy Allen is an experimental printmaker, draftsman and talented young British artist. Working hard from his studio on the North Norfolk coast, Guy’s trademark experimental approach to printmaking presents an exciting mix of colour, gold-leaf and an original, contemporary take on the traditional art of etchings. Studying at Central St Martins from 2008–-2011 Guy discovered the printing press on a trip to the École Nationale Supérieure Des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Finding an art form that lent itself so perfectly to his artistic aspirations was a revelation. He has never looked back.

I am a Yorkshire lass who studied art and sciences then graduated (BSc Hons) in genetics. Since moving to North Norfolk in 1982 I have found time to develop my life-long fascination with colour and form. Further study has stimulated this exploration: the tension between process and outcome being both exhilarating and exhausting -- my journey in art continues.

From a young age I have enjoyed drawing and making things. Stained glass had always intrigued me and in 2007 I had the opportunity to join Chris White's Adult Education evening class in Fakenham. Later, I moved to his daytime group in Upper Sheringham. Through the years I continued to attend his class as it has always been a place of inspiration, learning and fun; such a lovely group. I am inspired by nature and I like to create my own designs. I love finding the colours in glass that go together and usually just make one-off pieces. When I do a few pieces of one design, no two are the same because the glass, cutting, etc, always brings about variations. I'm not a prolific producer, but I love what I do.

I am self-taught but attended various courses in sculpture whilst living in Holland. I learnt to sculpt in cley until a friend introduced me to wood sculpturing and found that is where my passion lies. Unfortunately being somewhat older now, my strength slightly diminishing and having no suitable workshop at present I have reverted back to cley with a ceramic touch as opposed to pottery. I love experimenting but find I'm mostly influenced by the nature around me. I never seem to know before hand which twist my piece will take on. All my pieces are original and a one-off as when I have finished a piece I'm ready to create something new.

For years I provided art, craft, and cognitive therapies in care homes and daycare centres. However, after lockdown, it was time to concentrate on my own painting. So, revived, and encouraged by the teaching of the Norfolk Painting School, I am inspired by luminance, the natural world, and peaceful images from meditation.

I was born in Norfolk, but spent most of my childhood in Surrey and Australia. I always enjoyed drawing and painting and attended Reigate Art School where Michael Noakes was the drawing tutor. I later spent time at Reigate Galleries hand colouring antiquarian prints. After raising a family in Sussex, Denmark and Derbyshire I have returned to Norfolk and live by the coast, where the countryside and marshes provide inspiration for wildlife drawing and landscape painting.

I came late to embroidery after retiring in 2006. I joined a sewing group at the local WI. I progressed to take City and Guilds Embroidery Diploma and developed my own practice thereafter. I take inspiration from the world around me and enjoy making wearable items, embroidered bags and landscapes. Working in hand and machine embroidery with silk paper and embellished backgrounds, I add textured threads, beads and fabric scraps I have exhibited with the Embroiders’ Guild and with TOPstitch for the last 5 years.

We have been making drift wood lamps for 10 years or so now, it's a hobby of ours, we are not a business and any surplus funds are donated to local Charities. All wood has been collected from the North Norfolk Coastline between Wells-next-the-Sea and the the Overstrand area. The lamp bases are mainly of sea-defence remants or reclaimed oak driftwood. The wood has been sanitized and kept in try storage for approx 4--5 years to allow the moisture to escape. All electrics have been PAT-tested.

I have been painting since I was about 20 and in the main use acrylics and watercolour depending on what style of work I am doing. Inspiration for my work, whether it be the portraiture, whimsical cat & dog ‘doodles’ or the fun beach scenes comes from my love to make people smile.

Since early childhood art and design have been part of my life. After retiring early from my career as a building surveyor, I chose to take a degree in fine art (painting and sculpture) at Hertfordshire University. In 2002 we moved to North Norfolk and I was lucky to have a garden studio to continue my work painting in oils, watercolour and pastels and making sculpture. In 2003 I started making sculpture in Holt Country Park using found materials and timber supplied by North Norfolk District Council. In 2008 I started a small charcoal drawing class in Hempstead at the village hall to inspire new artists. Having concentrated on watercolour painting inspired by North-Norfolk churches, country side, sea and boats for the last few years, my current work explores the use of charcoal and pastel.

I'm hoping printmaking will be my next.

I'm a Graphic Designer by trade and studied for my BA (Hons) degree at Anglia Ruskin University Cambridge. I worked in the graphics industry for many years and then became a lecturer in the subject, teaching up to BA. I have always admired chinese brush painting over the years and had never painted anything until I met a lovely group, The Blakeney Chinese Brush Painting Group, in North Norfolk. They showed me the ropes and taught me how to traditionally paint the ancient art of chinese painting, their traditional techniqes, history and equipment used. I have been a member since 2016 and have loved every minute of it. I love painting animals the most, but have done a variety of subjects, I also love fine detail in my paintings, perhaps thats the Graphics side in me coming out in my painting.

Born and educated in Fife Scotland, I later moved to Hertfordshire to work in the aircraft industry. As a Design Engineer in aero/space it was very useful to use my drawing skills to help explain new ideas to production staff. It seemed natural to continue with this ability as a hobby and I started creating pencil and ink landscape drawings. I now consider myself to be a self taught pen and wash marine, architectural, aviation and landscape watercolour artist producing work often in a historic setting.

I am a member of Blakeney Chinese Brush Painting Group and am inspired by the natural world, especially animals, birds, trees, flowers and landscape, as well as by the traditional subjects of Chinese art, including 'The Four Gentlemen' - plum blossom, orchid, bamboo and chrysanthemum. I study online, and on courses, with artists and teachers from China and the UK, to develop my skills and knowledge of brush and ink techniques. I have exhibited regularly with the Blakeney Group, since 2016, at NWT Cley and Salthouse Marshes and am the local representative for the Chinese Brush Painters Society.

Textiles and stitch have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. For me, using textiles and stitch to express myself artistically was a natural progression. I’ve been many things in my life, chef, blacksmith, gardener, worked with resin in an interior furnishing business and decorator. But it was not until the first lockdown, that I found my true love of clay and started sculpting animals. I have always loved our British coastline and fell in love with north Norfolk; on visiting as a child and now as an artist. This is where I take a lot of my inspiration: the big open skies and the incredible, vast beaches. I now sell my work in two galleries and two hand-crafted shops in north Norfolk. My main subject is seals but I love to create all wild and farm animals and I’ve just started to work with a combination of wood and clay sculptures.

Norfolk Born, I’m a self-taught artist and printmaker living and working in Downham Market. After writing professionally for more than twenty-five years, around eight years ago I went on a morning’s rag-rug workshop and rediscovered my love of colour, texture and design. Since then I’ve gone on to explore mosaics, glass, hand-made felt, textiles, papercuts and print-making, revisiting and developing design ideas using a variety of techniques and media. Working from my own sketches and photos I’m inspired by the varied coast and countryside of Norfolk, overgrown unkempt gardens, birds and the rich colour and chaos of domestic life.

I am a self-taught artist with a passion for my rural surroundings. Nature, to me, is vibrant with pattern and colour and my work reflects this. The small meetings between myself and the non-human occupants of the corner of Norfolk we call home are precious to me and I seek to capture them in my paintings.

I have over 15 years experience working with traditional blacksmithing techniques and metal fabrication. This includes English Heritage and restoration work as well as private and public commissions. I enjoy working on restoration projects of old gates with intricate floral panels, and the processes of making the decorative flowers and leaves. This gave me the idea of focusing on these delicate features and to make them the focus of a large sculpture. I enjoy natural history and more recently I have been working on various animals, including octopus, squid, bugs and otters.
