I studied graphics and illustration at St Martins then worked as a freelance illustrator. Since moving to Norfolk 40 years ago I've worked as a freelance decorative painter and gilder on many projects ranging from decorating harpsichords to painting trade union banners. I'm now enjoying producing work inspired by the lovely coast and countryside here and am interested in exploring printmaking techniques

Anne‑Marie Wills‑Wilson
I am a self-taught pet and wildlife artist living in the beautiful North Norfolk countryside totally surrounded by the wildlife that I adore. I've always been dotty about animals and, over the years, have been owned by lots of pets: dogs, cats, budgies, rabbits, mice, chickens, horses and even the odd frog or two!! When I work I pay a lot of attention to fine detail which gives a natural and lifelike appearance to my portraits. The greatest compliment that I can receive about my art is if someone says that they can almost hear the animal breathing or that the fur looks so real that they want to run their fingers through it. I don't just want to paint a beautiful animal, I also want to capture its personality too. Each portrait takes many hours of work and I use the highest quality pastel pencils, soft pastel sticks, pan pastels and paper to achieve the best results.

Chris Haywood
I am a wildlife artist based in the mid-Norfolk countryside. My work reflects a long-standing interest in all aspects of the natural world. I aim to capture the unique character and personality of my subject, either in watercolour or coloured pencil. Working in high detail I use many layers to achieve a vibrancy of colour and transparency that allows other colours to show through. Another area of my work that I particularly enjoy is designing and printing greetings cards from my artwork. Please visit my website to see more of my work.

Chris White
Chris has had no formal art training although excelled in art and technical drawing. He trained as a mechanic servicing all kinds of office machinery working in the City of London. Later he turned his attention to the electrical retail trade. He moved to Norfolk in 1991 to run his own grocery/newsagent shop and post office. After ten years he sold on this business to pursue his love of glass crafting. As a trained and qualified adult education tutor he has seen many of his students take up this fascinating and rewarding craft all producing excellent work. Chris exhibits his work with the National Trust and numerous other private gardens. He exhibits his work every year as part of the North Norfolk Open Studios event.

Di Lindsay
Dianne Lindsay has an essentially realistic response to the rural and marine environment of Norfolk and Suffolk. Exhibiting for the last 10 years between Cromer and Southwold. The colour: lights, sights, and sounds of local views have always inspired her. With a strong interest in communicating, and the need to share the joy of painting with others. Aiming to do this with a fresh, spontaneous, vibrancy with a fullness from a colourful life and a need to capture the mood and moment in each piece. Her work features trees, gardens and local heritage sites including doorways, harbours, and pier views. Dianne enjoys working plein air as the light and skies in Norfolk are incredible. She can be found completing commissions at home nestled along the coast, and in her spare time will be found in her second love, her garden.

Felix Brason
I developed a passion for Woodturning as recently as the beginning of the pandemic. My education was in Conservation and Wildlife management, followed by a life underwater, teaching Scuba diving around the world, with downtime spent hiking in forests and mountains from Nepal, to the Rockies. Amidst the collapse of the Dive Industry, grounded back in the UK, a chance inheritance of my late Grandfathers old lathe sparked a new love affair with turning, and inspired me to create and develop the skill throughout the pandemic. Now with my passion well and truly set in stone, I spend every day either creating new forms, or collecting and preparing wood to become new bowls or vessels. There is something so sensual about unravelling a log to reveal its incredible colours, grain and pattern.

After a lifetime spent teaching Art to children in London, I've returned to Norfolk and, now, in retirement, I am fulfilling a lifelong ambition to paint. I have been painting for many years as an amateur, experimenting in many different mediums. Having lived in Lincolnshire for many years I was inspired by the fabulous skies, the dawns and sunsets. Watercolours were ideal for this, which I mainly concentrate on now. Now living in North Norfolk, I enjoy outdoor painting, the light and the charm as well as now experimenting with patterns. More of my work is on my website.

I am a Yorkshire lass who studied art and sciences then graduated (BSc Hons) in genetics. Since moving to North Norfolk in 1982 I have found time to develop my life-long fascination with colour and form. Further study has stimulated this exploration: the tension between process and outcome being both exhilarating and exhausting - my journey in art continues.

Jamie O'Leary‑Leeson
I started out working in the graphics industry mainly signage and then moved into print and designing logos for businesses. I was always more interested in using colour and texture in my work so I decided to pursue a career as an illustrator, mainly working on a series of educational books for HarperCollins publishers. Eventually, I needed something more fulfilling so I became an art teacher and have been working in Norfolk for the last twenty or so years. My work is usually based on architecture and ruins but I have been known to create an occasional portrait.

I am partially self taught but have also attended The Academy of Arts in Laren, The Netherlands, where I received tuition from the Dutch sculptor Jos Oosterhout. I have lived in Norfolk for three years and as I do not have the good fortune yet of owning my own studio I have gone back to working in clay and am experimenting with different medias as this enables me to work from home on the kitchen table! I am at present also experimenting in glazing. My real passion is sculpting in wood which somehow tend to be large pieces and mostly organic forms. I get my inspiration from the garden or by observation during my many nature walks. These I sculpt by hand as I feel I lose contact with the wood when using electric tools.

Joannie Sandford‑Cook
The bedrock of Joannie's work today is her training at Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and the Lorna Byron School of Art Dorset, commencing with natural history and watercolour botanical studies, which were enhanced by a foundation year inart and design and college summer courses, culminating in membership of the Society of Floral Painters and more recently The Society of East Anglian Watercolourists. In 2000 a move to East Anglia resulted in joining various local societies and groups, running classes and workshops mainly in free flowing acrylic inks. Her main subjects of interest range from local landscapes/seascapes and gardens/flowers in watercolour or acrylic. After many years teaching adult groups Joannie has retired to concentrate on her own work inspired by her beautiful garden at her home just a few miles from the north Norfolk coast.

After a classical grounding in fine art, I specialised in Graphic Design and Illustration at the Kent Institute of Art and Design. Following a career in London, the countryside and fresh air beckoned, and I moved to the Kent coast working as a college lecturer, freelance designer and mural painter. Having returned to my East Anglian roots, I have been inspired to rediscover my love of drawing and fine art and now specialise in commissioned colour pencil portraits of much-loved pets and people, pen and ink drawings of wildlife, and pastel painting. In addition to commissioned work, I produce limited edition archival prints and a selection of greetings cards from my original artworks.

Kirsty O'Leary‑Leeson
Having originally trained as an illustrator, Kirsty also gained a First Class degree in Fine Art from Norwich University of the Arts. She has exhibited widely in Norfolk, London and across the UK and has work in both private and public collections here, in the US, China and the Middle East. Her artwork is now far better travelled than she is. Although her professional body of work is based around her drawings, she has been enjoying a return to colour with her landscape oil paintings and multi layered gelli monoprints.

I work in a free, expressive style to capture the atmosphere of a place and time rather than geographical detail. I like to experiment and incorporate other materials and mediums together and often use charcoal, pastel, pencil and sand with watercolour and acrylic to enhance my paintings. The Norfolk landscape is the main inspiration for my artistic practice, in particular the beautiful coast and wide-open skies. I completed a BA Hons. in Fine Art in the 1980s at Stourbridge in the West Midlands and, after several years working in marketing and painting in my spare time, I returned to study MA in Fine Art at the Norwich University of the Arts in 2009. I now paint full time in my Cromer studio which is open via appointment.

Mike Thody
Since early childhood art and design have been part of my life. After retiring early from my career as a building surveyor, I chose to take a degree in fine art (painting and sculpture) at Hertfordshire University. In 2002 we moved to North Norfolk and I was lucky to have a garden studio to continue my work painting in oils, watercolour and pastels and making sculpture. In 2003 I started making sculpture in Holt Country Park using found materials and timber supplied by North Norfolk District Council. In 2008 I started a small charcoal drawing class in Hempstead at the village hall to inspire new artists. Having concentrated on watercolour painting inspired by North-Norfolk churches, country side, sea and boats for the last few years, my current work explores the use of charcoal and pastel.

As a textile and mixed media artist, I'm captivated by the ability of simple stitches to create visual and textural impact. I work both by hand and machine, usually on hand dyed or coloured fabrics. Where possible I source vintage or discarded cloth, threads and embellishments to re-imagine and re-purpose. My work is strongly influenced by my natural surroundings, especially the Norfolk coast and countryside.

I owe much of my love of nature to my primary school teacher in the small Cambridgeshire village of Barrington, further encouraged by my supportive parents. Earliest Wildlife awards stemmed from this time, when at the age of nine I won the first of two silver medals for 'Bird and Tree' studies, a National Competition run by the RSPB. This must have fuelled my taste for success to the detriment of more formal learning, although I did manage a place at Aston University to study Ophthalmic Optics, a prelude to my earlier career as an Optometrist. Moving to Norfolk in 1979 I began the precarious alternative life of Wildlife Photography, a decision I've never regretted, although I did have to wait nearly two years for my first cheque! Since those early days, my work has been accepted by agents including Getty Images, FLPA and the RSPB. Extensive travel increased the variety of material and satisfied my wanderlust with such exotic destinations as Antarctica, China, India, Peru, Brazil, much of Africa and Europe, where Central Spain remains a favourite destination.

Norfolk Born, Im a self-taught artist and printmaker living and working in Downham Market. After writing professionally for more than twenty-five years, around eight years I went on a mornings rag-rug workshop and rediscovered my love of colour, texture and design. Since then Ive gone on to explore mosaics, glass, hand-made felt, textiles, papercuts and print-making, revisiting and developing design ideas using a variety of techniques and media. Working from my own sketches and photos Im inspired by the varied coast and countryside of Norfolk, overgrown unkempt gardens, birds and the rich colour and chaos of domestic life.

I think I was born creative but ended up in a career in managing prison healthcare. It was only when I was forced to stop working by ill health that I had the time to paint. Being able to make art saw me through before and after a double lung transplant in 2019. I have sold and exhibited my work in Cley and Norwich and outlets in Holt and online. I am inspired by colour and form and love to paint still life with flowers and fruit.
