Alison Varley
Trained at Brighton Art College and the Royal College of Art Alison set up her studio workshop in Norfolk in 1980. Her work has been shown widely in galleries and exhibitions in London and across the country. Initially specialising in techniques of metal inlay she now works primarily in silver and gold with an emphasis on exploring many different characteristics that can be found within the metals and their juxtaposition. The use of strong lines and contrasting textures is a feature of her work. She is happy to work to commission both large and small and to discuss design ideas within the framework of her style. Her most recent major commission was to make a carved and engraved finial in silver and gold in the form of the Norfolk Coat of Arms for the top of the Under Sheriff of Norfolk's wand.

Ann <b>Udale During my working life spent in the South West of London, I studied pottery at the Richmond College of Art for a number of years. Since my retirement to North Norfolk, I have taken up painting and sketching, attending art classes and day courses. My interests extend to pottery, calligraphy, watercolour, charcoal and, most recently, creating miniatures using mixed media enhanced with fine embroidery.

Anne‑Marie Wills‑Wilson
I am a self-taught pet and wildlife artist living in the beautiful North Norfolk countryside totally surrounded by the wildlife that I adore. I've always been dotty about animals and, over the years, have been owned by lots of pets: dogs, cats, budgies, rabbits, mice, chickens, horses and even the odd frog or two!! When I work I pay a lot of attention to fine detail which gives a natural and lifelike appearance to my portraits. The greatest compliment that I can receive about my art is if someone says that they can almost hear the animal breathing or that the fur looks so real that they want to run their fingers through it. I don't just want to paint a beautiful animal, I also want to capture its personality too. Each portrait takes many hours of work and I use the highest quality pastel pencils, soft pastel sticks, pan pastels and paper to achieve the best results.

I am a wildlife artist based in the mid-Norfolk countryside. My work reflects a long-standing interest in all aspects of the natural world. I aim to capture the unique character and personality of my subject, either in watercolour or coloured pencil. Working in high detail I use many layers to achieve a vibrancy of colour and transparency that allows other colours to show through. Another area of my work that I particularly enjoy is designing and printing greetings cards from my artwork. Please visit my website to see more of my work.

Felix Brason
I developed a passion for Woodturning as recently as the beginning of the pandemic. My education was in Conservation and Wildlife management, followed by a life underwater, teaching Scuba diving around the world, with downtime spent hiking in forests and mountains from Nepal, to the Rockies. Amidst the collapse of the Dive Industry, grounded back in the UK, a chance inheritance of my late Grandfathers old lathe sparked a new love affair with turning, and inspired me to create and develop the skill throughout the pandemic. Now with my passion well and truly set in stone, I spend every day either creating new forms, or collecting and preparing wood to become new bowls or vessels. There is something so sensual about unravelling a log to reveal its incredible colours, grain and pattern.

Fiona French
Fiona <b>French I studied fine art at Croydon College of Art in the 1960s, and soon after became one of Bridget Riley's assistants; I also taught in one or two Art Colleges. These were part time jobs. In 1974 I chose to concentrate on Children's Book illustration & writing. While I lived in London I wrote and iIllustrated many children's books. The day after the Big Storm in 1987, I moved to Norfolk and gradually moved away from illustration back to my painting roots, exhibiting work in Bacon's Bookshop during the 1990s. I have returned to live in Little Barningham this year, it is very good fortune to exhibit at Hempstead Arts and also to a gallery in Burnham Market.

I am partially self taught but have also attended The Academy of Arts in Laren, The Netherlands, where I received tuition from the Dutch sculptor Jos Oosterhout. I have lived in Norfolk for three years and as I do not have the good fortune yet of owning my own studio I have gone back to working in clay and am experimenting with different medias as this enables me to work from home on the kitchen table! I am at present also experimenting in glazing. My real passion is sculpting in wood which somehow tend to be large pieces and mostly organic forms. I get my inspiration from the garden or by observation during my many nature walks. These I sculpt by hand as I feel I lose contact with the wood when using electric tools.

Joannie Sandford‑Cook
Joannie <b>Sandford‑Cook The bedrock of Joannie's work today is her training at Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and the Lorna Byron School of Art Dorset, commencing with natural history and watercolour botanical studies, which were enhanced by a foundation year inart and design and college summer courses, culminating in membership of the Society of Floral Painters and more recently The Society of East Anglian Watercolourists. In 2000 a move to East Anglia resulted in joining various local societies and groups, running classes and workshops mainly in free flowing acrylic inks. Her main subjects of interest range from local landscapes/seascapes and gardens/flowers in watercolour or acrylic. After many years teaching adult groups Joannie has retired to concentrate on her own work inspired by her beautiful garden at her home just a few miles from the north Norfolk coast.

John Glyn Jones
Several years ago a chance purchase of some computer software for paper craft design led me down the road of producing posters and cards - literally hundreds. To achieve unique designs I began to use my own art work. These days, I paint first, and then incorporate the paintings into my card/poster work. Initially, I experimented with oils and acrylics, but an old box of watercolours really excited (and frustrated) me. The range of mixable colours, together with the effect of transparency and soft/hard edges can be totally absorbing. Now, I try painting subjects which almost demand the use of these qualities, and the creation of shadow and depth in pictures.

Julie <b>Brason After a classical grounding in fine art, I specialised in Graphic Design and Illustration at the Kent Institute of Art and Design. Following a career in London, the countryside and fresh air beckoned, and I moved to the Kent coast working as a college lecturer, freelance designer and mural painter. Having returned to my East Anglian roots, I have been inspired to rediscover my love of drawing and fine art and now specialise in commissioned colour pencil portraits of much-loved pets and people, pen and ink drawings of wildlife, and pastel painting. In addition to commissioned work, I produce limited edition archival prints and a selection of greetings cards from my original artworks.

Mavis <b>Lambert I am a self-taught amateur artist living in North Norfolk. I started painting many years ago but then life took over and now after a gap of twenty five years I have rekindled my passion. My painting is very different now: I love to look for colour and patterns in everything especially Norfolk flints, old wooden doors, rust and decay. My work is mostly watercolour but occasionally I will use mixed media. All my paintings are done from my own images, imagination (or a mixture of both) or outside in the fresh Norfolk air.

Mike <b>Thody Since early childhood art and design have been part of my life. After retiring early from my career as a building surveyor, I chose to take a degree in fine art (painting and sculpture) at Hertfordshire University. In 2002 we moved to North Norfolk and I was lucky to have a garden studio to continue my work painting in oils, watercolour and pastels and making sculpture. In 2003 I started making sculpture in Holt Country Park using found materials and timber supplied by North Norfolk District Council. In 2008 I started a small charcoal drawing class in Hempstead at the village hall to inspire new artists. Having concentrated on watercolour painting inspired by North-Norfolk churches, country side, sea and boats for the last few years, my current work explores the use of charcoal and pastel.

Richard <b>Woodfield Retirement from a long teaching career has given Richard the time and impetus to pursue his love of pen drawing. His inspiration has come from a number of different sources with the work of Frank Patterson and Alfred Wainwright proving major influences. Richard has exhibited widely and is a provisional member of the Institute of East Anglian Artists.

Roger Tidman
I owe much of my love of nature to my primary school teacher in the small Cambridgeshire village of Barrington, further encouraged by my supportive parents. Earliest Wildlife awards stemmed from this time, when at the age of nine I won the first of two silver medals for 'Bird and Tree' studies, a National Competition run by the RSPB. This must have fuelled my taste for success to the detriment of more formal learning, although I did manage a place at Aston University to study Ophthalmic Optics, a prelude to my earlier career as an Optometrist. Moving to Norfolk in 1979 I began the precarious alternative life of Wildlife Photography, a decision I've never regretted, although I did have to wait nearly two years for my first cheque! Since those early days, my work has been accepted by agents including Getty Images, FLPA and the RSPB. Extensive travel increased the variety of material and satisfied my wanderlust with such exotic destinations as Antarctica, China, India, Peru, Brazil, much of Africa and Europe, where Central Spain remains a favourite destination.

A retirement promise was to learn something new. It turned out to be more than one 'something', starting with learning to play the harp, and then by learning to work with glass. Both have been a challenge, but immensely satisfying. I love the natural world and my work in glass usually reflects this.

Tania Fiorentini
Tania <b>Fiorentini I have lived in North Norfolk all my life. I love our County. I loved Artclass at school but since then until being made redundant ten years ago, I never got time to even think about doing any artwork. Eight years ago, an advert about art classes made me want to go and get started. Clemintina Sutton was the teacher. I joined her art class at Holt. I have learned so much from Tina, over the past seven years I have used different mediums

Terry Draper
I am a failed art student, (Sheffield and Liverpool Art Colleges, 1969-72), who fell into Building Surveying and couldn't find a way out until retirement two years ago. At Art College I went down the Fine Art path whereas in hindsight I should have followed Graphic Design, as my brain only seems to function in two dimensions, (hence the beauty of plan drawing!) The camera for me offers a two dimension view of things and keeps an old Norfolk man from idle thoughts.
